No real evidence to show lasers work

October 26, 2016

Having worked in professional sports for years there are lots of gadgets and equipment which clubs will spend ££££££££s on. Alter G treadmills are hundreds of thousands of pounds and are a great investment for rehabilitating players but did any of these medical departments have a laser machine? No!
If lasers aren't used in elite sports medicine (because lack of evidence and perceived benefit) then how can I justify the use with my canine and equine patients? I can't.

Tendon and ligament injuries are best managed with appropriate rest and a graduated loading program (as advised by vet and physio). I feel that the exercises and rehabilitation that can be done often by owners are much more beneficial (and cheaper) than using laser or other machines.
